Doron Letzter – Femme Fatale

Femme Fatale – the "destructive woman" or the "fatal woman" – a woman who knows how to use her charms and her sexual attraction to bring the falling and perhaps even the death of a man, by a plot against him, sorts of intrigue or even might be because his hopelessly attraction to her. The secret of this woman's strength lies in its beauty and generally amazing sexuality, independence and determination to achieve her goals.

As a photographer, my main interest is in the fashion world. My devotion to this type of photography stems from the feeling of thrill before and during production and the effort to create colorful scenes which represent a story. I try to assemble a cast of special-looking people rather than professional models, and of course have to deal with different and interesting places, people and places.

The aesthetic richness in this kind of photography appeals to me more than the clean lines, minimalist or pure conceptual photography.

The representation of women in this type of photography interests me as well as their appearance and the status. By using my visual imagination and my attempts to better understand my sub-conscious visions make me think, act and create such scenes. They all naturally led me to create this project.

My work is representing some staged scenes dealing with the subject of "Femme Fatale" humorously and cynically, attempting to amplify and ridicule the theme of violence and sexuality of women controlling men.

The visual language of my pictures is a reflection of the fashion photography using colorful, dramatic lighting and unusual angle shots.

All of the photos are in the "Projects" category on my website- www.letzter.net

The attorney Mr. Moshe Kaplansky

The attorney Mr. Moshe Kaplansky is among the most successful and most important attorneys in Israel.
I had the pleasure of meeting him while he has been representing injured former soldiers who have become sick after training in the polluted Kishon River.
Kaplansky owns an independent law firm operating in a 7-storey building.
The office manages all lines of insurance claims and employs a staff of 45 employees including senior attorneys, interns, and administrative staff.
When I got to the office of Mr. Kaplansky which is located on the top floor, I began searching for the right corner for the best picture.
The senior associates in the firm, Mr. Kaplansky’s son, Dr. Kobi Kaplansky was present too, so I took his pictures as well.

It is obvious that the family is very important in Mr. Kaplansky’s life, and their photos hang on the wall in a big corner at the office, so I was sure this corner is the right place to settle for the pictures.

While touring the place, Mr. Kaplansky showed me the objects in the office and took me to the room where he keeps all kinds of gratitude presents from satisfied and grateful clients: original works of Yaacov Agam , Menashe Kadishman and others.

After a tour of the offices, I brought some pieces into the space in which I wanted to photograph: a replica of the statue the thinking man, an old Globe, family pictures and a symbolic marble chess board.
I decided in advance that I should use classic soft light in order to highlight the subjects and flatter them. I added to the main lighting more directed lighting to brighten the background, and I placed another small, smart flash that illuminated the chess board and the black suits.

After I photographed a couple of frames the Attorney Kaplansky and we got the desired result (along with some amusing pictures for personal use) I invited Mr. Kaplansky’s son, so the picture would be most representative for the office.
On this set I chose to use just a relatively narrow angle lens (85 mm focus), to create a kind of 'distance' which will cause a kind of “grandeur” of the subjects.

I ended with some close-ups for PR uses and photos of Mr. Kaplansky and his personal assistant, but I was not over with my visit to this special place;
For quite a while, with great interest, I listened to Moshe reading for me a few anecdotes from court protocols from the court hearing of the polluted Kishon river. As my father is one of the people that were affected by the polluted water and is represented by Mr, Kaplansky, it was very interesting and inspiring.
I must point out that only listening to the stories behind the scenes, and sharing some of the knowledge and the experience of Mr. Kaplansky was so inspiring and rewarding.

Opher Brayer- CEO of Brayer Group

I met Opher Brayer, CEO of Brayer Group, through a mutual friend and after a brief acquaintance I was caught by his charms.
Opher began his career as a music teacher who led Israeli musicians to succeed throughout the world.
He led an independent study, unique in the development of management and talent during the last twenty years and was elected in 2003 one of 60 leading business mentors worldwide, on behalf of MISSION PUBLISHING, and has been working with the leading businessmen.
When I came to photograph Opher, I entered a house full of bookshelves and in the living room there was a beautiful black piano.
Before photography, and placing of the lighting, I talked to him about how he sees himself as CEO, as a businessman, about his profession and as a private person.
Because I knew Opher, his nature and personality before taking the photos, I had a few ideas how to implement those things in the photographs.
Opher is the "People's Person", good natured, easy going but a man of hard work. I wanted to express these personality characteristics in the picture, in the best way.
The background footage was no less important – the piano and the books that characterize him, and all the things that are an integral part of his life, had to be expressed in a certain way. Yet it was important for me to make sure that they remain in the background and not create a wrong sense – that he may be a pianist, for example

In order to show the combination of personality characteristics of Opher and the way he wants to present himself as a businessman I used a relatively wide-angle lens with focal length of 40mm and low angle point of view- about the height of his hands- to create an illusion of glorification – as if the viewer looks up at the person (that was common in sculpting and painting in the classic art)
He is looking at the camera with a slight smile, hands crossed, and the sleeves rolled up slightly and so he creates the look of a serious businessman that does not forget his sense of humor yet devoted to hard work.
I used relatively soft, yet directional light that led Opher’s left sides of his face, and a backlight from the counter-side that not only brought him out, but created some extra drama and theatrical sense to the picture.
It was also important to add some fill-light to the unlit side of Opher’s face and not to keep the books behind and the piano at the dark.
Soon we reached our destination and the perfect image emerged. The combination of position and the right look of straight forward eyes show the best of Opher.
Everything is taken into consideration to create this truthful moment

Executives Portraits Photogrpahy – Introduction

Visit me at my website: www.letzter.net

The wide world of portrait photography is much more than a visual aspect. A good portrait also contains other aspects such as psychological, emotional, sociological or cultural aspect.

Long before the beginning of the era of photography, various arts depicted the person not only externally but also the person’s character, status, virtues and so on.

Today- the era of visual communication- portraits can be found everywhere. A good and true portrait is inalienable property. The portrait is the mediator between the person and the target audience.

Multimedia and communication channels provide rare opportunities that previously were not found in advertising and public relations.

The media is evolving and the business leverage is growing.

However, this easy way becomes an unbearable lightness of creating problematic issues; random photographers are “crowned” by public relations companies as portrait photographers.

The quality of their work is not of any interest. Neither is the message.

The price charged is the only thing that matters.

It is well understood that for good results a skilled portrait photographer is needed. There is growing demand for high quality and accurate message.

One of the most known and very interesting character is Steve Jobs – the former Apple CEO.

Jobs was known as a good copywriter, a visionary who did not compromise when it came to fulfillment of his dreams and his truths.

Jobs took his dreams so far away that he was even ready to bet on his place in the company he himself had established.

The famous portrait of jobs tried to capture the appearance and body position which will express jobs’ features as a revolutionary CEO who made a huge change. The photographer explained that he spoke to Jobs and asked him to think about important projects he had on the agenda.

When Jobs was busy thinking about this he suddenly became serious, and that’s exactly what the photographer grasped.

The famous portrait has been published all over the world and turned into the business card expressing valuable information about the person.

Today CEOs and senior executives all over the world realize the tremendous power of a good portrait showing them exactly how they want to be displayed.

The next posts that are going to be published will tell about the experiences and insights of portraits I have photographed and I will share some professional secrets as well.
